Event/Wall description: Google reads the first sentences. Try to use as many keywords as possible in the event description of the live blog. The text piece "All the latest news..." at the top that looks like it's TopHTML could be expanded to have a bit more context as well. Write up a nice little intro
Title:something more descriptive.
Generally, do a keyword audit and use language accordingly. Once you know what you're looking to rank for it's just a matter of knowing where those keywords can be best placed and baked into the strategy moving forward. Tools like Google Trends are handy for that. You can thentake the keywords you're looking for and add them to the page title/description etc. for
each event as well
LiveArticle or some kind of top summary: The stream is so great - it'd be valuable if QPR could pull some of their favs into a Livearticle or pinned post, too! Then they could use headings, which have more value for SEO and really give even more context to what we're seeing
headers: via the sub headline button in the advanced post. They're structured in the code as such that they have more weight than the content. Google ranks those higher.
Similarly, our URL previewsget ranked higher. Therefore, rather than linking to a post, try and simply copy the URL into the quickbox to get the preview
If possible, add new posts regularly to keep the content fresh (not every 10 seconds but every hour or two, minimum every 5 to 6h)
Name your picture files: don't name the actual file something like DSC92473.jpg because that has no value to search engines. Give images proper naming, e.g."awesome-football-catch.jpg" would have much more value and have a greater chance of being indexed for something football related to drive traffic
Tweet it out: Every post in the Quickbox can be tweeted out. Use this feature to tease Twitter users - when they click on the link in the tweet, it links back to your whitelabel and the single post.Everything you have in the TopHTML of the event (text, pics, videos) will be visible as well (and can work as additional teaser to click through the whole event)
One more thing to keep in mind: You can customize the default share message users send out when they share your event or single post on Twitter. This can help you make the content more interesting to followers of fans
Also, very good with potential advertisers are reoccurring events. Try to gain a reputation in a certain field, e.g. by regular chats or discussions, e.g. football fan chat every Saturday, a medical chat with experts once a month or week, etc. You create a plattform for users to engage and come back to - that generated traffic is interesting for advertisement because you can count on a certain audience level and type.
In terms of blogging events like sports competitions or award shows, you can win sponsors more easily: Examples: Germany: Mittelbayerische: Sportsman of the year: see attachment (top banner ad by Glasfaser) USA: AJC: McDonalds (in the title - when it was live, they had an ad on the right and a top banner additionally): http://livesports.ajc.com/Event/AJC_Live360_Atlanta_Falcons_Mailbag_brought_to_you_by_McDonalds?Page=12
Good for promoting the whitelabel: The small German regional Mittelbayerische promotes traffic to its whitelabel by adding a "LIVE" button to their section header. http://www.live.
Syndication decision will be based on three things:
Brand (and trust in the providers reputation)
Content (Type of coverage, timing of coverage, reputation/experience of storytellers involved, themes of coverage, exclusivity, etc.)
Price.
In order to make the decision as easy as possible for the buyer (media/non-media), we have laid out best practices for all Market listings.
General:
Ensure that the description of the event covers the basics: Who/What/Where/When/Why and how.
Include the name of the individuals involved in the event (reporting, hosting, guests etc.). It is also extremely important to include their qualifications; it should always be clear to anyone reading about the event as to why the coverage is compelling, and, why they should trust those involved.
Include what type of coverage the purchaser can expect in the event. Will there be photos? Video? Live audio? Will social elements be includes? Will audience comments be included? Polls?
Ensure that the image is uploaded and is *clear*. make sure you image is relevant, eye-catching and NOT a company logo.
Brands (All of the above applies, but there are additional considerations):
If the event is sponsored by a brand, what is the relationship? (We need to be transparent).
If employees are going to be part of the live event, this should be clearly communicated.
With branded content, there might be an initial assumption that this content is only related to the brand (and selling), but that's not always the case. For example: If RBC is partnering with Weber Shandwick on a series about kick-starting one's career, and the editorial covers off on tips & tricks to get a job at any organisation (not just RBC), the description should communicate this point clearly as it widens the appeal.
Two examples:
1) Simple: Reuters
Reuters editors provide real-time coverage of events as they continue to unfold since the alleged chemical weapons attack in a rebel-held suburb of Damascus.
Coverage includes:
• Reports from Reuters sources on the ground in Syria • Context from the Reuters newsrooms in London and New York • Video & photographs • Social media curation and commentary
2) More elaborate: Twitter IPO (see email attachment)
Gerry McCann on the press post-Leveson: "They hide behind talk about the rights of the press while they routinely trash the rights of ordinary people. They constantly claim to stand up to the powerful, but they are the ones with the power, and they use it ruthlessly." Via Comment is free
